Kolkata Book Fair 2009
Scotland was the theme at the 2009 Kolkata Book
Fair which ran from January 28 - February 8 2009.
The event, held in Kolkata (Calcutta), India, is Asia's biggest
Book Fair.
The Scottish pavilion received over 35,000 visitors
per day.
Edinburgh Inspiring Capital worked with the British Council to
ensure a positive perception of Edinburgh to the 2 million
strong Indian audience. Edinburgh branded pop-ups, DVD's, pens,
website flyers and bookmarks given out at key events such as
the Alexander McCall Smith Inaugural speech and the Burns
supper.
As Scotland was the theme country, the Book Fair was opened
by acclaimed Scottish author, Alexander McCall Smith.
