Fringe First awards
6th September 2005
In partnership with The Scotsman, the Edinburgh City Region
Brand this year has had the pleasure and delight of supporting the
Fringe First awards 2005.
The winners of these richly diverse and imaginative awards
were presented with their awards on Friday 26 August, at an awards
ceremony held at the Assembly Music Hall, in the Assembly
Rooms. Presenting the Fringe Firsts was Gyles Brandreth, who
was at the festival this year in Twelfth Night - The Musical.
The ceremony included extracts from two of our winning shows
from previous weeks - Basic Training at the Gilded Balloon, and
Children of the Sea at the Royal Botanic Garden. There were also
live musical performances by the terrific Ukulele Orchestra of
Great Britain and the excellent Balagan.
The prizes, now more than 30 years old reward outstanding and
imaginative new writing premiered on the Fringe, and are given out
each week during the festival.
Every Fringe show that has received a four or five-star review
in The Scotsman during the festival - including all our Fringe
First winners - are also eligible for this year's Carol Tambor
